Environmental Portraiture by Jim Cornfield

Cathy Church collaborated with Jim Cornfield on his book to create a new kind of portraiture.

Cathy took on a new challenge to produce a photo of a famous person for the book "Environmental Portraiture", something that she had never done before. It is easy to take a wonderful photo of a diver in the background or looking at an underwater subject in the foreground, but it is another thing to have the photo tell you something about the personality of the subject and not just a generic diver. She chose good friend James V. Hart (Scuba enthusiast, producer/screenwriter - “Hook”, “Contact,” “Bram Stoker's Dracula”). Her account of the project makes up the fascinating final chapter of the book, which includes the work of 12 other a-list shooters who demonstrate the power of location portraiture in every possible environment (mostly on dry land) that gives meaning to a portrait subject’s story.
